Jason Reitman to Direct, Produce ‘The Possibilities’ for Indian Paintbrush

The novel about a grieving Colorado mother hails from “The Descendants” author Kaui Hart Hemmings

With one movie about to hit theaters and another in production, Jason Reitman is showing no signs of slowing down, as he has signed to direct and produce “The Possibilities” for Indian Paintbrush, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

The book will hit stores on May 13 via Simon & Schuster, which is publishing the new novel from “The Descendants” author Kaui Hart Hemmings.

Set in a Colorado ski town, “The Possibilities” follows a grieving mother struggling to overcome her son’s death who is visited by a mysterious girl with a secret that may change both their lives.

Reitman and his Right of Way partner Helen Estabrook will produce with Indian Paintbrush, which optioned the novel.

While Reitman’s “Labor Day” received a qualifying run for current awards consideration, the film isn’t scheduled for wide release until Friday. Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin star in the adaptation of Joyce Maynard’s novel.

The Oscar-nominated director of “Up in the Air” and “Juno” is currently filming “Men, Women and Children,” which stars Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner and Emma Thompson. He’s represented by WME.

Inkwell Management reps Hemmings, whose book “The Descendants” led to an adapted screenplay Oscar for writers Jim Rash and Nat Faxon.
