“The Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” is getting a face lift midway through its first season. Janeane Garofalo, who plays lead Lisa Edelstein’s lawyer and friend, Lyla, is leaving the show.

Production is currently under way on the 13-episode first season of Bravo’s first-ever scripted series, which means the creative teams are working on how to remove Garofalo’s character from the ensemble and move the show forward without her. Representatives for Garofalo and the show did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Garofalo is not off of the set yet. According to TV Line, the actress will remain part of the production through October as her character is organically written out of the show. The show is reportedly seeking another actress to fill Garofalo’s absence, but it will be a wholly new character.
The series is based on Vicki Iovine’s best-selling “Girlfriends’ Guide” books. It was developed by Marti Noxon and co-stars Paul Adelstein and Beau Garrett. Adam Brooks directed and co-wrote the pilot with Noxon, which airs Dec. 2 on Bravo.
