What if the boys from “New Girl” were unleashed upon the world of law enforcement? That’s how some might see the new 20th Century Fox comedy flick, “Let’s Be Cops.”
Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. star as two buddies who dress up like police officers for a costume party, and wind up taking things way too far. After realizing that some people actually thought they were cops, the two decide to keep up the charade, with Johnson even going so far as to purchase a car that he tricks out to look like local police cruisers.
But, as the latest red band trailer proves, they aren’t remotely prepared for the consequences of their decisions. Things take a dark turn when the pair find themselves embroiled in a real case — with the mob.

Unfortunately, the mob boss does some investigating and discovers they’re not cops, but he doesn’t assume they’re faking. Instead, he figures they must be high-level operatives. In truth, they’re low-level idiots.
Nina Dobrev also co-stars along with Rob Riggle, Keegan-Michael Key, James D’Arcy and Andy Garcia. Luke Greenfield directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Nicholas Thomas. The WideAwake comedy was produced by Greenfield and Simon Kinberg. 20th Century Fox will release “Let’s Be Cops” on Wednesday, August 13.
