Issa Rae, star and creator of HBO’s hit series “Insecure,” is now the newest face of CoverGirl cosmetics.
“I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through CoverGirl ads, singing their slogan in my head,” Rae wrote to her Instagram page.
“Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”
In a press statement from the iconic cosmetics brand, Rae went on to say: “My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona – whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life.
“Becoming a CoverGirl means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others,” she added.
The 32-year-old actress just wrapped up Season 2 of “Insecure” this past Sunday and joins the likes of Tyra Banks, Janelle Monáe and Rihanna as ambassadors for the cosmetic brand.

Even Rae’s friend and co-star of the series was rooting for her new partnership by expressing that she could not wait for her line to officially drop in stores.
“I’m bout to run to every CVS, RITE AID & WALGREENS and just WAIT for Issa Rae’s CoverGirl line to DROP!” Yvonne Orji wrote to her own Instagram page. “I’m coppin ERRYYY DARN SHADE, you hear me?! I’mo be so ignant at the checkout counter if they ran out and ain’t re-stocked.”
