The Season 2 trailer for HBO’s “Insecure” dropped Thursday, and Issa Rae is back with more awkward black girl shenanigans, picking up right where Season 1 left off.
In the new trailer, Issa rediscovers her boobs, the fun of going out while single and also the annoyances that come along with dating. After being asked again and again where she’s from by a bunch of potential suitors, she imagines herself replying: “Honestly, it doesn’t matter what I say because this isn’t going anywhere,” in typical Issa deadpan.
Lawrence (Jay Ellis) is still in the picture, but the couple is broken up after Issa cheated on her long-term boyfriend and he found out. But apparently, he’s not too mad to avoid sexting… which Issa gets caught doing at work.
Nonetheless, Issa is looking to enjoy the single life, even if she is trying to win Lawrence back eventually. “I just want to feel good,” she tells Molly (Yvonne Orji). “Can you teach me how to hoe?”
“That’s rude,” Molly responds with a sip of wine. “And yes.” Yas queens, we are here for this.
But it looks like Season 2 will tackle more issues than Issa’s dating life, like what it means to be a black woman in the workforce — Molly discovers that although she’s a top lawyer at her firm, she’s getting paid less than a white, male colleague.
“I know as black women it can feel like there are a lot of things stacked against us,” a yet-unnamed character says in the trailer. “We feel invisible at work, we feel the pressure to have the perfect relationship.”
Well, Issa, we see you, and can’t wait to see Season 2 when it returns on July 23 on HBO.
