"Iron Man 3" will rocket into IMAX screens this spring, IMAX said Tuesday.
The film, which once again stars Robert Downey Jr. as the titular hero, will be digitally remastered into IMAX's 3D format. It will hit theaters internationally on April 25 and domestically on May 3.
Allowing the superhero movie to unspool in the large screen format could mean big profits for the film's producer The Walt Disney Company. "The Avengers" picked up $15 million in IMAX theaters during its record domestic opening last summer, while IMAX accounted for nearly 12 percent of "The Dark Knight Rises"s' $160 million opening.
"Iron Man 3" is the fourth film derived from Marvel Comics to be presented in IMAX theaters; a group that includes "Iron Man 2," "Thor" and "The Avengers."
In addition to Downey, the film stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Guy Pearce. Ben Kingsley will play the villainous Mandarin, a super-terrorist who takes on Iron Man.
