Christopher Nolan‘s “Interstellar” is proving to be a juggernaut at the foreign box office.
The space epic starring Matthew McConaughey brought in $74 million from 64 overseas markets this weekend, raising its international total for distributor Warner Bros. to $329 million. With its $120 million haul from North America, where Paramount Pictures is handling the film, its global total is at nearly $450 million in three weeks.
“Interstellar” is pacing roughly 13 percent ahead of where “Gravity” was at a comparable point in its overseas rollout, and 10 percent ahead of Nolan’s “Inception,” Warner Bros. said.
“Interstellar” brought in $30.6 million in its second weekend in China, where its total is now over $82 million. It also generated $10.4 million from Korea, where it stayed No. 1 for the third consecutive weekend.
IMAX screens have been a driving force for the film, which co-stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The giants screens have brought in nearly $39 million from abroad.
Its only opening this weekend was Japan, where it took the top spot with $1.9 million.
