Pamela Adlon’s award-winning and Emmy nominated FX comedy “Better Things” celebrated its season two premiere at the Pacific Design Center and Catch in West Hollywood. Here, the writer/executive producer/star, who directed all 10 episodes this season, poses with her three “TV daughters.”
Adlon told the crowd that “this show is a love letter to my daughters.” Her three biological daughters (on the right) joined the festivities. In minutes, Adlon went from a welcoming standing ovation to tears when talking about the support from friends and family that helped her wrap the production in 40 days.

“While season one was extraordinary, Pamela and team have taken the show to a new level in season two,” FX President of Original Programming Eric Schrier (right) told the packed SilverScreen Theater at the PDC.
Poor John Ales. The veteran actor’s character becomes the victim of a searing diatribe in an early episode that should immediately put Adlon back in to the Emmy conversation for 2018. That is, if any network, talk show, or Emmys clip package could figure out how to bleep around Adlon’s cascade of expletives. It’s a standout monologue.
Hannah Alligood and Olivia Edward, who play Adlon’s two youngest daughters, hit the dance floor at Catch to tunes by Kungs and Lorde’s “Green Light.”
Adlon (hitting the carpet with costars Rebecca Metz and Allie Chapman) is in one of the most stacked categories at the Emmys, Lead Actress in a Comedy. Her competition is Tracee Ellis Ross, Lily Tomlin (a governor of the Emmys acting branch), Jane Fonda, Allison Janney, Ellie Kemper and perma-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Schrier, Angela Lewis, and FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad followed Adlon’s orders and walked across San Vicente Boulevard to the afterparty. As the screening ended with applause and then a moment of quiet, Adlon shouted “Everybody go now!”
