Oscar hopeful “Silver Linings Playbook” held strongly, taking in just over $2 million from 371 screens, only a four percent drop from last weekend.
Days after nabbing four Golden Globes nominations including Best Comedy or Musical, the Weinstein Company’s dark comedy from David O. Russell raised its overall total to nearly $17 million. Its $5,617 per-screen average was the best of any film except for “The Hobbit.”
Focus Features expanded “Hyde Park on Hudson” from four theaters to 36 in its second week and it took in $297,406. That’s a sturdy $8,261 per-screen average for the R-rated drama about U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt starring Bill Murray and Laura Linney.

“Anna Karenina” was in its fifth week for Focus and took in $998,103 from 409 theaters, a per-theater average of $2,440.
Fox Searchlight expanded “Hitchcock” from 181 theaters to 561 in its fourth week and brought in $1,085,000 for a 3-day per-screen average of $1,935. Its overall domestic total is just over $3 million.
Cohen Media Group’s French import “The Other Son” pushed its overall U.S. total past a million dollars. Writer-director Lorraine Levy’s tale of two young men, one Israeli and one Palestinian, who discover they were accidentally switched at birth brought in about $50,000 from 39 theaters
