IM Global has hired former Weinstein Company executive Michael Rothstein as the company’s president of International Sales and Distribution, founder and CEO Stuart Ford announced on Monday.
Rothstein, who was president of international at TWC between 2005 and 2013, will oversee a sales operation spread across regional offices in Los Angeles, London, Beijing and Mexico City, while also serving as a board member of Latin American joint venture Mundial, which handles 6-8 Latino films per year.
Additionally, Rothstein will be active in licensing of the company’s library of approximately 250 titles, and take a management role in the company’s wholly owned Southeast Asian distribution venture, Apsara Distribution, which handles 6-10 wide release titles per year via an output partnership with Buena Vista International.
Before joining TWC, Rothstein was a sales executive at Miramax Films. During 16 years with the Weinsteins he was responsible for the international sale and distribution of titles including “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The King’s Speech,” “The Artist,” “Chicago,” “The Hours,” “Finding Neverland” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” movies.
“It’s over a decade since Michael and I were colleagues at Miramax and since then I’ve watched with admiration as he’s grown into one of the most respected and well-liked sales chiefs in the industry,” Ford said in a statement. “I’m highly confident that his know-how, profile and sophistication will be a major addition to our senior management team. Not only will Michael be a strong frontman for our industry-leading international sales platform he will also be a key contributor to our broader corporate expansion activities.”
