Iggy Azalea took to Twitter on Tuesday to dispel rumors of a spat with Britney Spears, and fired back at the media for playing up the drama.
In a string of tweets, Azalea explained that any “beef” between her and Spears is something manufactured by the media. She also accused the media of wanting women to only be “overtly sexual” and to have “no real opinion other than, ‘I love it!’”
“We remain friends and I haven’t said anything negative at all about her,” the Australian rapper wrote. “Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy?”
The perceived “beef” began during a Twitter Q&A on Sunday, when a fan asked the Azalea why the Spears track she’s featured on, “Pretty Girls,” had flopped. She responded by placing the blame on Spears’ camp and their lack of promotion for the single.
“I don’t have to suck the woman’s asshole 24/7 to be her friend, do I? Bye girls,” Azalea wrote, and then later claimed that she wasn’t intending to be bitchy or throw “shade.”
Spears responded on Twitter the next day, expressing her excitement to return to her residency show at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, which many interpreted as a dig at Azalea’s canceled Great Escape tour.
“Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to,” she wrote in the tweet, with the hashtag #YouWantAPieceOfMe.
Iam honestly not surprised but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a "beef" between @britneyspears and myself.

i feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other. As a woman i take great offense.

Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. its disappointing.

No one is throwing "shade" or "shots" on either side of the table. The girl is my friend and i support her 100%.

i feel like the press just wants to see girls be overtly sexual to one another, and have no real opinion other than "i love it! ^.^"

Im over it. Women in music are not the same as a teen drama. Stop making us all out to be, we are business women & artists. Not mean girls.
