IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. distribution rights to "The Shrine," a thriller starring Aaron Ashmore (below, "Smallville"), Cindy Sampson ("Supernatural") and Ben Lewis ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World").
Jon Knautz directed the movie. J. Michael Dawson produced. Knautz and Brendan Moore wrote the screenplay. Trevor Matthews, of Brookstreet Pictures, is executive producer.
The movie is about a group of journalists who link the disappearance of a young American backpacker to a remote village in Poland and soon become the next victims of ritualistic human sacrifice.
The deal was negotiated by Lizzie Nastro, director of acquisitions & co-productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content on behalf of the filmmakers.
IFC Midnight is a sister division to Sundance Selects and IFC Films. It is owned and operated by Rainbow Media.
