Universal Pictures is targeting the Kevin Hart and Ice Cube comedy “Ride Along” for Martin Luther King weekend in 2014.
The film — a comedy starring a pair of popular African-American actors and a director with a proven track record — will debut Jan. 17, the studio said Wednesday.
Hart stars as the future brother in-law of an undercover cop (Cube). While riding along with the cop one night, he accidentally gets involved in the cop’s latest case.
The comedian has considerably augmented his brand over the past couple of years, particularly this year with the success of "Think Like a Man" and his hosting the Video Music Awards.
Tim Story, helmer of 2012 hit “Think Like a Man” and “Barbershop,” is directing a cast that also includes John Leguizamo, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen and Jay Pharoah.
Cube, who last appeared in "21 Jump Street," is producing with Matt Alvarez, Will Packer and Larry Brezner.
