You know who would make a great Oscars host (again)? Hugh Jackman. And the Brit Awards certainly had the right idea, booking Jackman to perform a lavish, extravagant and fiery performance from “The Greatest Showman.”
Jackman kicked off the awards show at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday with a rendition of “The Greatest Show” from the Michael Gracey 2017 musical in which the Australian actor portrays P.T. Barnum.
“Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for,” Jackman sang, standing at the top of a pyramid of dancers all dressed in red jackets and black top hats, with him adorned in a sharp silver suit.
The Brit Awards recognize music achievements, as artists like George Ezra and Jorga Smith took home prizes for the Best Male and Female British Solo Artists. Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris won for their single “One Kiss.” The rock band The 1975 took home the prize for Best British Group and for Album of the Year for “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.” Drake and Ariana Grande won International Solo Artist awards, and Ed Sheeran was recognized for Global Success.
The night also featured additional performances by Ezra, Calvin Harris, the 1975 and Pink.
