What Is The Many Saints of Newark About?

Set in 1967, “The Many Saints of Newark” dives into the backstories of many “Sopranos” mainstays, most importantly Tony Soprano. Tony’s relationships with his mentor Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), mother Livia (Vera Farmiga) and uncle Junior (Corey Stoll) are explored, informing the person he will eventually become. Danger is in the air as a group of rival mobsters rebel against the established DiMeo crime family and racial violence threatens to tear the city apart. Michael Gandolfini steps into his late father’s shoes as the teenage Tony Soprano. Original cast member Michael Imperioli reprises his role as the hotheaded gangster Christopher Moltisanti. Ray Liotta, Billy Magnussen, Jon Bernthal, Michela di Rossi and Leslie Odom Jr. support a cast of new and old characters.
