Jessica Williams is Jon Stewart’s replacement as the host of “The Daily Show” — in “Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” at least.
Following Stewart’s announcement that he will be stepping down from the fake news desk he has anchored for the last 17 years, Paramount Pictures released a new clip from the upcoming comedy showing screenwriter Josh Heald either got an early tip about Stewart’s plans, or correctly predicted the 52-year-old comedian would have retired by 2025.
The timely clip continues the movie’s topical marketing strategy, which also took advantage of the New England Patriots’ Deflategate scandal that made headlines in between the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl.
Williams — currently a “Daily Show” correspondent — serves as a tool to establish the future in “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.” The episode informs co-stars Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke that Jennifer Lawrence plays Meryl Streep in a biopic, cars drive on their own, and Neil Patrick Harris is the President of the United States.
“Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” in which the time-traveling friends take another dip in the magic hot tub to save Lou (Corddry) from assassination, hits theaters on Feb. 20.
