History is teaming up with Kevin Costner for a true life mini-series "The Hatfields and the McCoys," the network announced on Tuesday.
The greenlit series will premier in 2012, the 150th anniversary of the famous back country family feud.
Costner, who memorably appeared in "Field of Dreams" and "Dances with Wolves," will star as "Devil" Anse Hatfield.
For those who are a bit rusty on their Hatfield-McCoy chronology, the dispute occurred shortly after the Civil War between a West Virginia and Kentucky family. The situation devolved to the point where various family members were executed or murdered, and the bloody conflict inspired international headlines.
It also served as the crux of a memorable story thread in Mark Twain's classic "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
Greif co-created and executive produced “Walker Texas Ranger.”
"The Hatfields & McCoys" is being produced for History by Thinkfactory Media. Greif will serve as an Executive Producer on the project with Herb Nanas and Darrell Fetty producing for Thinkfactory Media. "Deadwood" scribe Ted Mann handled the script duties.
The miniseries will be produced by Leslie Greif’s production company, Thinkfactory Media, and Costner will act as a producing partner.
Kevin Costner is represented by JJ Harris at One Management and WME.
