The 84-year-old Pope Benedict XVI sent out his very first holy tweet on Tuesday.
"Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI," he wrote.

His ordination to the Twittersphere coincides with the 60th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood.
Using an iPad, the pontiff's missive and the new site represent a big step forward into social media for the Vatican, whose official Twitter account already has over 44,000 followers.

Pre-Pontiff tweets on the account follow his word and world travels. Some examples:

As for the new site, it's loaded with the Vatican's latest breaking updates, an online radio station, a Flickr photo album, Facebook links and "Church in the World" news.
