Hilary Swank and a Robot Fight for a Daughter’s Love in Sci-Fi Thriller ‘I Am Mother’ (Video)

Netflix is releasing the Sundance film with Clara Ruggard and the voice talent of Rose Byrne on June 7

In the first trailer for the sci-fi thriller, “I Am Mother,” Hilary Swank and a robot battle for a daughter’s love.

Rose Byrne voices a robot designed to help repopulate humanity that raises a young woman as its daughter. But the girl’s unique bond and her whole world is rocked when Swank shows up and reveals that this robot she calls “Mother” has always had different intentions.

Clara Ruggard stars opposite Swank and Byrne as the voice of “Mother” in the film that Netflix picked up out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

“Daughter, your whole life I’ve taught you to see the bigger picture,” Byrne’s robotic matriarch says in the film’s first trailer. “Everything I do is to protect you.”

The high-concept story that gives off memories of “The Terminator,” “Moon” and “Ex Machina” among others comes from screenwriter Michael Lloyd Green and director Grant Sputore. Timothy White and Kelvin Munro produced the film.
