Shots Fired

Fox’s cop shooting drama “Shots Fired” has added Helen Hunt, Stephen Moyer and Richard Dreyfuss to the cast, TheWrap has learned.

The project hails from “Beyond the Lights” director Gina Price-Bythewood and her husband, producer Reggie Rock-Bythewood. It was put into development in October.

The story follows the aftermath of a police shooting involving an African-American officer and white teenager.

Sanaa Lathan will play an expert investigator who digs into the case, alongside a special prosecutor (Stephan James) sent to the town by the Department of Justice. The pair must navigate the media attention, public debate and the social unrest that comes with such a volatile case, as they seek justice before the divided town erupts in a race war.

Hunt will play the fictional governor of North Carolina, while Moyer will play a detective who gets caught up in the investigation, and Dreyfuss will play the owner of a local privatized prison.

Hunt returns to TV after starting her career as the star of “Mad About You.” She is represented by CAA. Dreyfuss, repped by APA, most recently played “Madoff” for ABC. Moyer is coming off of HBO’s “True Blood” and FX’s “The Bastard Executioner” and is repped by WME and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
