“Grey’s Anatomy” stars Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight will soon be exiting the popular medical drama, their co-star told Us Weekly magazine on Tuesday.
“Yes, she is [leaving],” said James Pickens Jr., who plays Dr. Richard Webber on the ABC show, as he confirmed Heigl’s departure. “Wherever Katherine goes, I wish her nothing but the best.”
Pickens added that Knight is leaving because “he just wanted to pursue other career paths.” Media outlets have been reporting for a number of months that Knight was trying to find a way to sneak out of his contract, while “27 Dresses” star Heigl seems to be becoming more invested in a film career, and will star in the upcoming “The Ugly Truth.”
Knight, 35, and Heigl, 30, who won an Emmy for her role as Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens, have been a part of “Grey’s” since its inception in 2005.
ABC said it was not “commenting at this time” on the rumors. Publicists for Knight, Heigl and series creator Shonda Rhimes also did not comment.
