Beyoncé has spoken. Or that is, we finally heard her voice as Nala in the latest teaser trailer for “The Lion King” that dropped Monday.
The Queen B and soon-to-be Queen of the Pride Lands released the TV spot via her YouTube channel, and in it we see Nala begging Simba (Donald Glover) to return to the Pride Lands and defeat Scar.
“Simba, you have to take your place as King,” Beyoncé says in the trailer. “We need you. Come home.”
Our previous look at “The Lion King” featured primarily James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa, and we all know what he sounds like. So there’s still a lot of curiosity as we wait to hear more from the full cast of the film, including Donald Glover as Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Kani as Rafiki, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu and Eric Andre, Florence Kasumba and Keegan Michael-Key as the three hyenas.
And we haven’t forgotten Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, who show up briefly in this teaser as well.
“Oh everyone calm down, we’re here,” Timon says. “The backup has arrived,” Pumbaa chimes in.
Jon Favreau is directing the live-action “Lion King” remake of the Disney animated classic. The film opens in theaters July 19.
