HBO has picked up a new comedy series produced by Judd Apatow and created by and starring "Tiny Furniture" filmmaker Lena Dunham, the network announced.
The show, called "Girls," will look at "the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s," the network said.
Dunham and Apatow will executive produce with Jenni Konner. Ilene S. Landress will co-executive produce.
The show will also star Jemima Kirke (“Tiny Furniture”), Allison Williams (“American Dreams”), Adam Driver (HBO’s “You Don’t Know Jack”) and Zosia Mamet (“Mad Men”).
“Lena Dunham quickly established herself as an important young talent with her first feature film,” said HBO entertainment president Sue Naegle in a statement. “We are thrilled to team up with her and fellow executive producers Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner for this exciting project.”
Dunham has earned significant critical buzz for this year's "Tiny Furniture," which she wrote, directed and stars in.
“Tiny Furniture” has received Independent Spirit Award nominations, for best first feature, best first screenplay and best cinematography, as well as two Gotham Award nominations, in the categories of best ensemble cast and breakthrough director award.
