HBO and Peter Berg are tackling the wild, wild west, developing a new series titled “Untamed,” TheWrap has learned.

The story will follow three mismatched travelers who set out on a journey along the treacherous trek from 1840s Wyoming, across the Rocky Mountains to Utah — a journey where they’ll be forced to embrace some of their most primitive instincts, both good and bad, to survive.

Berg will direct and serve as executive producer, while Mark L. Smith will write and executive produce, with Alissa Bachner acting as co-producer.

Currently directing “Deepwater Horizon” starring Mark Wahlberg and Gina Rodriguez, Berg is also known for his films and TV series including “Friday Night Lights,” “Lone Survivor” and “Battleship.” He is represented by WME.

Berg is also an EP on HBO series “The Leftovers” and “Ballers.”

The “Untamed” news was first reported by Entertainment Weekly.
