There’s Another Harry Potter Mobile Game Coming and This One Has a Trailer (Video)

Role-playing game (finally) gives fans their own Hogwarts acceptance letter

Congratulations! It only took 20 years, but you’ve finally been admitted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Your letter should be arriving later this year, when the first Harry Potter role-playing mobile game is released.

Until then, you can enjoy a taste of the magic with the new teaser trailer for “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery,” from studio Jam City.

The RPG will allow players to create a personalized Hogwarts student avatar. But wait, there is more! You can attend classes, meet with Hogwarts professors, cast spells and make potions, and build bonds with friends and snub your enemies.

“Hogwarts Mystery” will focus on both larger plots and smaller relationship stories, a la the actual Harry Potter franchise, according to Entertainment Weekly. But the game is a prequel of sorts, set at the school when Harry was much younger and Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley were enrolled.

The title is set to launch in the App Store and Google Play in the spring, but will be revealed first at the Celebration of Harry Potter event at Universal Studios in Orlando, from Jan. 26-28. Those lucky enough to attend will be the first to play the game. So, uh, get some tickets now if your fingers are itching to get your hands on a wand — a virtual one, we mean.

“Hogwarts Mystery” is not to be confused with the upcoming “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” from Niantic and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the creators behind “Pokemon GO.”

In that augmented reality mobile game, which was announced in November, players can go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover artifacts and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters from J.K. Rowling’s series as they trot through neighborhoods and cities across the globe.
