Guillermo Del Toro unleashed “Pacific Rim” on Comic-Con Saturday, showing footage of monsters battling robots – all with a human touch. Or, as the director put it, “robot porn.”
Still, Del Toro still cautioned the audience against expecting battle for battle’s sake.

“It’s not a war movie but an adventure movie with a romantic sense of adventure,” he told the crowd in Hall H. “It’s not just spectacle but has huge emotional content and a sense of awe.”
Legendary Entertainment chief Thomas Tull sensed the awe in the room, joking that they had the bank account to prove how much the movie cost.
Del Toro acknowledged the massive budget, and took a shot at some other big-budget films in the process.
“When you get a budget, you can get crazy or lazy. I chose to be as crazy as I could,” said Del Toro.
He also said he refused to use motion capture because he didn’t want the robots to move like human beings, and promised some types of animation no one had seen before.
The film, in which the world enlists giant robots piloted by humans to defend the world against an alien attack, debuts next summer. Del Toro, (pictured, right, with Ron Perlman) promised this would be the only footage released until next year as everyone goes into “radio silence.”
They just finished shooting it two weeks ago.
“All those motherf***ers with James Bond cameras in the glasses, don’t use them,” Del Toro said. “No one will ever see this footage again.”
For now, this will do.
