Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis will reprise her role as Dr. Nicole Herman in the penultimate episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14, TheWrap has learned.

We last saw Dr. Herman in Season 11, and she and Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) had a strained but special mentor-mentee relationship. Knowing she had a brain tumor, Herman wanted to impart as much knowledge about pediatrics and fetal surgery to Arizona as she possibly could. She ended up getting brain surgery, but eventually went blind after complications.

According to the episode’s logline, Davis will return as Dr. Herman to present Arizona with an exciting opportunity — could this be how Arizona will be written off the show? It wouldn’t be the first time a character left Grey Sloan Memorial for another career opportunity — we’re looking at you, Cristina Yang.

It was announced in March that Capshaw and co-star Sarah Drew, who plays Dr. April Kepner, will not be returning to the medical drama after this season concludes.

Capshaw and Drew filmed their final scenes on Thursday, creator Shonda Rhimes said on Instagram.

“I need to devote a whole day just to celebrate Jessica and just to celebrate Sarah,” Rhimes said in her caption, promising she had “more to say” about the actress’ “magic.”

The penultimate episode airs on ABC on May 10. “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 will conclude on Thursday, May 17.
