Fox unleashed an all new trailer for “Gotham” Tuesday and its biggest star may be the back of Ben McKenzie‘s head.
“This is my city,” he warns while strolling down a dark, dingy alley with the back of his head to the camera.
“I’ve come back because I care what’s happening to it. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who cares. This town is at a tipping point — crime, corruption ooze from every corner.”

The “Southland” alum plays a young Jim Gordon, who is still merely a novice detective in this small-screen Batman prequel.
He passes would-be villains while approaching the gritty, grimy “Gotham” crime scene. Jada Pinkett Smith (Fish Mooney) , Cory Michael Smith (The Riddler), Camren Bicondova (Catwoman) and Robin Taylor (Penguin) co-star.

It’s not the first look we’ve had at the show, of course. As TheWrap reported last month, McKenzie’s character is concerned with nipping the city’s escalating evil in the bud.
“Someone needs to take a stand against it all,” McKenzie adds, as the camera finally shows his face. “And that is where we come in.”
The tense teaser’s tagline is “The Good. The Evil. The beginning,” and “Gotham” indeed begins Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. on Fox.
