“Gossip Girl’s” Chace Crawford is primed to make his TV comeback.

The actor has been cast as a lead on “Boom,” ABC’s upcoming drama pilot about the recent oil boom in North Dakota. He will star alongside Don Johnson (“Miami Vice”) and Delroy Lindo (“The Cider House Rules”) on the project, produced by Tony Krantz and ABC Signature.

Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne wrote the pilot, which takes a microscope to the biggest oil discovery in American history. Jonas Pate directed.

Crawford will play Billy, a quick-witted and ambitious hustler who travels to the North Dakota oil fields with his companion Kelly in search of fortune.

Should the project get ordered to series, it will mark one of the first major returns to TV for any star of The CW’s popular teen drama “Gossip Girl,” which wrapped in 2012. Crawford has since appeared on an episode of Fox’s “Glee” and had previously starred alongside Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Elizabeth Banks in “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” He will appear opposite Eliza Dushku in “Eloise,” an upcoming thriller from Robert Legato.

Podwall Entertainment and CAA represent him.
