NBC’s “Good Girls” and Lifetime’s “You” are the latest series to relocate productions to California to capitalize on the state’s film and television tax credit initiative, the California Film Commission announced Monday.
“Good Girls” is moving its production from Georgia to the Golden State, where it will receive an estimated $9.3 million in tax credits, while Lifetime’s upcoming psychological thriller “You,” produced by Horizon Scripted Television, will get $6.1 million in tax incentives to move from New York.
California Governor Jerry Brown last week approved an extension of the program through 2025.
“We’re excited to bring ‘Good Girls’ to California and employ hundreds of California workers on an important series for NBC and Universal Television,” said Jerry DiCanio, EVP of production operations for Universal Television. “We look forward to many years of continued success in California and are grateful to the Governor, state legislature and California Film Commission for making this possible.”
Including Monday’s announcement, 15 TV shows have moved production to California since the launch of the state’s push to boost production jobs, joining the likes of “Veep,” “The OA” and “Legion.”
The upcoming eighth season of “American Horror Story,” the third season of “American Crime Story” and the third season of “This Is Us” have also been selected to receive the state’s tax credits.
“Year-four of California’s expanded tax credit program is off to a great start with a pair of relocating TV series and last week’s passage of legislation to extend the program for another five years,” said California Film Commission executive director Amy Lemisch. “We’re bringing long-term, high-quality jobs in-state as we reaffirm our commitment to fighting runaway production.”
In addition to the two new relocating projects, the California Film and TV Tax Credit Program 2.0 currently has 26 recurring series in various stages of production are currently in the program and eligible for tax credits.
