"Going the Distance" is going to have to wait to hit theaters.
Warner Bros. said Thursday the Drew Barrymore-Justin Long romcom release date is getting pushed back a week to Sept. 3.
“Moving to the Labor Day weekend not only allows us to take advantage of the long holiday weekend, but gives us some distance from the other female-driven films releasing in August," Dan Fellman, the studio's president of domestic distribution, said, referring to Julia Roberts starrer "Eat Pray Love" hitting theaters this week. "Additionally, we have an opportunity to build more awareness and word-of-mouth for a movie we believe has strong appeal for a broad audience.”
In the R-rated "Distance," Barrymore and Long star as a budding young couple who must navigate a cross-country romance after their initial summer fling grows into the potential of becoming serious. The movie marks the feature directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Nanette Burstein.
