Gerard Butler digs into his roots for Alex Proyas‘ “Gods of Egypt,” and the first trailer for the fantasy epic has the “300” star preparing for battle against “Game of Thrones’” Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Set in ancient Egypt against the legendary world of great pyramids and sphinxes, “Gods of Egypt” is the story of a common thief and a god on a magical quest.
As TheWrap first reported, Coster-Waldau stars as Horus, the god of the sky, who must avenge the death of his father, Osiris.
Butler plays desert god Set, who kills Osiris and plans to murder his own father, sun god Ra.
The first trailer also prominently features Brenton Thwaites, who plays a human who teams up with Horus to take down Set, while Chadwick Boseman, playing the god of wisdom Thoth, is also briefly glimpsed.
“Gods of Egypt” will be released by eOne on April 8, 2016.
