‘Glee’ Star Chris Colfer Gets ‘Struck by Lightning’

David Permut is producing the indie coming-of-age comedy, which Colfer wrote

"Glee" star Chris Colfer is graduating to the big screen.

The Emmy-nominated actor who plays Kurt Hummel on the popular Fox series has signed on to star in the coming-of-age comedy "Struck by Lightning," his publicist has confirmed to TheWrap.

David Permut ("Youth in Revolt") of Permut Presentations is producing the indie project, which was written by Colfer, who plans to shoot the film next summer during his hiatus from "Glee." The script is said to capture the spirit of the classic teen movies written by the late John Hughes.

Permut plans to shop the project to financiers next year after he attached a director and additional cast members.

Colfer's manager Glenn Rigberg (HBO's "You Don't Know Jack") will exec produce "Lightning," while Steve Longi, Permut's VP of production, will co-produce.

Permut is currently developing HBO Films' biopic of Sam Kinison with director Tom Shadyac, as well as a feature film about John DeLorean, which Adam Mazer is writing.

Colfer is represented by Coast to Coast Talent Group and Inphenate. His casting was first reported by Variety.
