The trailer for the much-anticipated thriller “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” has made its way on line and in a matter of hours, the thing rocketed to 400,000 views on Youtube.
David Fincher is directing the English-language version of the film, based on the best-selling, super-scary novel by Swedish author Stieg Larsson.
Some reports suggested that the trailer might have been leaked, but that seems more than doubtful – considering that it makes use of dozens of scenes, carefully scored music and then writes the name of the movie and the studio (Sony Pictures' Columbia) at the end.
They're calling it "the feel-bad movie of Christmas."
(By now, we are seriously not fooled by the device of starting a trailer with some shaky images that look like they were bootleg-shot on video in some theater. Nice try.)
The trailer lays out a pulse-quickening, dark collage of the story about a journalist, played by Daniel Craig, who is aided by a young, female hacker in his search for a woman who has been missing — or dead — for forty years. Rooney Mara co-stars, along with Christopher Plummer.
The trailer is backed by a cover of Led Zeppelin’s gritty anthem “Immigrant Song,” apparently covered by Yeah Yeah Yeah singer Karen O, and Trent Reznor, who also worked with Fincher on “The Social Network.”
The movie will be out in December.
