California Gov. Gavin Newsom is set to host his own Apple podcast series that will feature sit-down interviews with MAGA leaders and topics related to everyday social issues facing Americans.
“We need to change the conversation, and that’s why I’m launching a new podcast, and this is going to be anything but the ordinary politician podcast,” Newsom said of his newly announced “This Is Gavin Newsom” podcast in a teaser clip Wednesday via X. “I’m going to be talking to people directly that I disagree with as well as people I look up to, but more importantly than anything else, I’ll be talking directly with you, the listener.”
He continued: “Real conversations: what’s going on with the cost of eggs? What are the impacts — real impacts to you — around tariffs? What power does an executive order really have? And what’s really going on inside of DOGE. Look, there’s an onslaught of information we take in. So let’s take it to the sources without the typical political mumbo jumbo. In the first few weeks, we’re going to be sitting down with some of the biggest leaders and architects in the MAGA movement.”
So far, there’s no premiere date for the series, however, in its description it states “This Is Gavin Newsom” will be updated weekly with new episodes. No guests have been announced.
Interestingly enough, Newsom’s news came after fellow Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett pushed for a need for daily briefings to curve and ultimately correct the slew of misinformation that’s been circulating online regarding the economy, DEI and federal agencies.
“When I think resistance though, I’ve had a lot of conversations, and one of the things that keeps coming up is how the former governor of this state [Andrew Cuomo] was consistently doing daily briefings in the midst of COVID because we couldn’t trust anything that Donald Trump was saying about the pandemic,” Crockett said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes.” “We need to do something similar to that … All they’re trying to do is spew lies, upon lies, upon lies. We need to daily brief the American people.”
Newsom’s podcast could serve as one of the Democratic party’s first efforts following that suggestion.
