Warner Bros. confirms to TheWrap that the trailer for the Ryan Gosling-Sean Penn film "Gangster Squad," which depicts trenchcoated gunmen shooting through a movie screen, has been pulled following the tragic shooting at a "Dark Knight Rises" screening in Aurora, Colorado.
A spokeswoman for Warner Bros. could not say whether the trailer will be re-cut to eliminate the offending footage.
Though the trailer had run prior to screenings of "The Dark Knight Rises," it did not play before the Aurora screening.

The scene took on a sickening resonance with the mass killing at a Colorado midnight showing of "Dark Knight Rises" in which 12 people were killed and 38 injured.

The trailer remained widely available online, and is posted below. The theater shooting comes at its climax: A film begins, and four trenchcoated men begin firing tommy guns from behind the screen. Their bullets shred the screen, and they step through it, still firing.

The noir drama, directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone, is set for a Sept. 7 release.
Here's the video, which may, obviously, be unsettling to watch given the real-life shooting:
