For anyone curious just how big those dragons are eventually going to get in “Game of Thrones,” author George R.R. Martin released a preview and it does not disappoint.
Martin, who wrote the “Song of Ice and Fire” novels that the HBO show is based on, attached the image (above) to an excerpt from his upcoming companion book, “The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the World of Game of Thrones,” on his website.

The excerpt, titled “Aegon’s Conquest,” recounts the rise of King Aegon I Targaryen, who conquered the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros with the help of a giant dragon named Balerion, the Black Dread.
These days on “GoT,” Aegon is long gone, but his descendent Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) has three growing dragons of her own, and is amassing an impressive army of freed slaves as she continues her slow march toward King’s Landing.

It’s hard to imagine anyone beyond an army of White Walkers being able to stop her, at this point, but then again, the Red Wedding and Purple Wedding have proved that no character is safe, no matter how strong they appear to be.
“The World of Ice and Fire” hits book shelves on Oct. 3.
