Sophie Turner has something to say, and she hopes you hear it loud, clear and without misinterpretation: She did not drop the N-word in a recent video she appeared in.
Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the HBO swords-and-dragons drama “Game of Thrones,” has issued a statement denying that she hurled a racial slur in an Instagram video featuring Turner and her boyfriend, musician Joe Jonas.
In a statement provided to TheWrap, Turner provides an explanation that’s as humorous as her denial is adamant: The actress clarifies that she was actually saying “motherf-ckers.”
“I used the word ‘motherf-ckers’ in a recent video posted in an Instagram story and not a hateful racial slur that has been suggested,” Turner said.
The actress continued,, “I am incredibly upset that anyone would think otherwise, and I want to make it clear that I would never use such an abhorrent word.”
The video clip features Turner, Jonas and others in a gym, with Turner issuing a greeting that some interpreted as, “What’s up, n-ggas.”

Turner’s denial notwithstanding, the video has sparked a robust — or at least heated — discussion via comments ranging from, “N-ggs reaching again! Waiting for a white person to say something so they can pick at it and call it racist!” to “If you are NOT BLACK and you like saying the word N-gga, don’t get caught saying that sh-t on camera . ESPECIALLY if your [sic] famous.”
