MAJOR spoilers for the May 22 episode of “Game of Thrones” below. Don’t read if you don’t want to know.
“Game of Thrones,” the most gut-punchy show on TV, just laid us out yet again.
At the conclusion of Sunday night’s episode, Meera, Bran and Hodor frantically attempted to escape the undead forces of the evil White Walkers, but not all of them made it.
To help Meer and Bran escape, Hodor had to hold a door (read our recap of the episode for more on the semantic significance of this event). He did it, but seemingly at the cost of his own life.
And, given how beloved Hodor has been as a character, this event led to quite the outpouring of emotion and jokes on social media Sunday night after the episode aired. Here’s a sampling of the best reactions:
