President Barack Obama may be the most powerful man in the free world, but even he can’t get “Game of Thrones” spoilers out of the show’s production team.
At the Season 6 premiere in Hollywood on Sunday, Liam Cunningham –a.k.a. Davos Seaworth– said that the commander in chief tried unsuccessfully to find out the fate of Jon Snow.
“David Nutter, who directed [the Season 5 finale], was at a party… and a certain individual, you may have heard of him, called Barack Obama came over to him,” Cunningham told the BBC.
“He said, ‘Are you David Nutter?’ He said, ‘I have a question for you, Mr. Nutter.’ And David said, ‘Mr. President, he’s deader than dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.’ And Obama went, ‘OK,’ [and walked off],” Cunningham continued.
Of course, being president does have its perks. According to the show’s creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Obama requested advance DVD copies of the season and they basically had no choice but to comply.
“When the commander in chief says, ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you gonna do?” Benioff said. Now we can only hope that Obama protects any spoilers like he would something less important, like nuclear launch codes.
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 officially kicks off on April 24 on HBO.
