“Game of Thrones” bested its own record for most Emmy nominations ever earned by a scripted series on Tuesday morning. The HBO drama, which received 32 nods, also hit the highest total for any show in a single year, topping the 26 nominations “NYPD Blue” got in 1994.

The Dan Weiss and David Benioff-created series now boasts a total of 161 nominations for its eight-season run, beating the 129 tally it hit in 2018 — the previous record for a scripted series — when it picked up 22 nominations for Season 7.

Among the 2019 nominations received by “Game of Thrones” was the coveted Outstanding Drama Series nod, as well as noms for leads Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke; supporting cast members Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Gwendoline Christie, Sophie Turner, Alfie Allen, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau; and guest star Carice van Houten.

The haul brought in by “Game of Thrones” helped HBO regain the top spot in terms of Emmy nominations, with 137 overall for 2019. Netflix, which ended HBO’s 17-year streak as the most nominated network last year, finished with 117 nominations.

The 71st Emmys will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22, starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Fox. The awards show will be co-produced by Don Mischer Productions and Done+Dusted.
