FX Wills ‘Wilfred’ to Pilot

Network futher bolsters its comedy lineup with David Zuckerman-produced adaptation of Aussie series

FX continues to build its comedy lineup, with the cable network announcing Wednesday that it’s ordering a pilot from “Family Guy” producer David Zuckerman.

The live-action series “Wilfred” is an adaptation of an Australian TV show with the same title.

Jason Gann, who co-created the Aussie version, has signed on to star in the pilot. Zuckerman, who also works on Seth MacFarlane’s “American Dad,” wrote and adapted the script and serves as executive producer.

Other executive producers include Rich Frank, Paul Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz.

“ ‘Wilfred’ is about a guy, the girl next door, and mixed-breed dog, Wilfred, who is part Labrador retriever and part Russell Crowe on a bender,” said Zuckerman. “Jason Gann is one of the funniest, most twisted minds I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, despite being a foreigner and therefore untrustworthy.”

FX will premiere its new Louis C.K. comedy vehicle “Louie” on June 29 at 11 p.m., following the sixth-season premiere of “Rescue Me.” Comedy-wise, FX also has in production the sixth season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which is set to premiere in the fall.

Also, the cabler – er, cable network – has in production second seasons of live-action fantasy-football-themed “The League” and animated spy-spoofer “Archer.”
