Alain Corneau, a French filmmaker who rose to fame with "Tous les Matins du Monde" ("All the Mornings of the World") has died. He was 67.
Corneau had been suffering from cancer and died early Monday, according to his talent agency, Artmedia.
Corneau's "Love Crime" starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier is scheduled to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival next week. It was released in France two weeks ago.
Gerard Depardieu starred in 1991's "Tous les Matins." The film won seven Cesar awards, the French equivalent of the Academy Awards.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy called Corneau a "courageous man" and a "great director," in a statement Monday, according to an Associated Press report.
"Corneau pursued an unceasing investigation into what makes humans human," Sarkozy said.
