Twentieth Century Fox has tapped Max Landis, son of "An American Werewolf in London" director John Landis, to write a fresh take on "Frankenstein," TheWrap has confirmed.
The undead monster has long been stabled at Universal, but with the Mary Shelley book in the public domain, Fox is making its own inroads into the horror genre.
Landis' "Frankenstein" will be a "new twist" on Shelley's classic, not a straight adaptation, according to an individual with knowledge of the production.
Landis previously wrote the script for the supernatural thriller "Chronicle." Fox is planning a February 2012 release.
