Former Academy President Sid Ganis Tapped as Dolby Laboratories Adviser

Tech company wants the movie business veteran will help open doors to Hollywood’s creative and production communities

Dolby Laboratories has tapped a movie business veteran to help open doors across the industry.

Former Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Sid Ganis will serve as an adviser to the company, Dolby announced Monday.

Ganis stepped down as president of the Academy in 2009.

In addition, Ganis was president of worldwide marketing for Columbia TriStar, vice chairman of Columbia Pictures, and president of marketing and distribution for Columbia Pictures.

He also held top posts at Lucasfilm, Warner Bros., Paramount, and Twentieth Century Fox.

Dolby did not fully elaborate on what role Ganis would play beyond saying he would help expand relationships with the exhibition, production and creative communities.

In addition to serving as Academy president, Ganis worked four terms as first VP and has been a member of the AMPAS Board of Governors, representing the public relations branch of the Academy.

He has also sat on the boards of directors for Marvel Entertainment, Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, and the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.

Ganis was born and raised in New York and attended Brooklyn College.
