News broke that Tarek and Christina El Moussa, the stars of the HGTV series “Flip or Flop,” have separated after seven years of marriage, and since that Dec. 12 announcement, every day we learn more about how (and why) it all unfolded.
In a statement, the couple cited an incident earlier this year, during which Tarek reportedly ran from the family’s home in Orange County, California, with a firearm, prompting a police call of “a possible suicidal male with a gun,” as reported by TMZ.
“Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage,” the couple’s statement to People read. “We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed.”
In a statement provided to TheWrap, “Flip or Flop” network HGTV said that the series, which premiered its seventh season on Dec. 1, would continue as planned.
Eventually, we learned that Christina was “crying and shaking” during the incident that preceded her split from husband. According to the sheriff’s department, Christina told deputies that a friend of hers called her and told the reality TV star that she was in Christina’s bedroom when she saw Tarek take a handgun from the gun safe, place it in his backpack and leave the room.
Christina told detectives that her husband “did not make any threatening statements to her and he did not make any comments about hurting himself or anyone else. She also denied that Tarek had ever been suicidal.”
By Dec. 14, news started to emerge that Tarek and Christina had started seeing other people.
Internet trolls began bothering the former couple, trashing Tarek for gun ownership, and Christina has been shamed across social media.
On Dec. 16 we learned that Christina is reportedly dating the family contractor and, on Dec. 17, it was reported by TMZ that Tarek hooked up with the family’s former nanny.
