Meryl Streep has landed in Monterey.
Nicole Kidman, star and executive producer of HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” shared the first photo of the Oscar-winning actress on set of the drama series’ second season, wearing a robe and short, brown wig. “First day on the set with Meryl and ‘my’ darling boys!” she wrote.

Streep joins the cast as Mary Louise Wright, the mother-in-law to Kidman’s character who arrives in Monterey to tend to her grandchildren and search for answers regarding her son’s death.
HBO announced back in December that the Emmy-winning miniseries would return for a second season, with nearly all of the original cast since signing on to return, including Kidman and fellow EP Reese Witherspoon.
David E. Kelley will write and executive produce Season 2, which will be based, in part, on story by “Big Little Lies” author Liane Moriarty. Andrea Arnold will direct all seven installments.
“Big Little Lies” marks Streep’s first major foray into television since the HBO miniseries adaptation “Angels in America,” which earned the actress an Emmy award in 2004. Streep has also taken home Emmys in 1978 and 2017, for the NBC miniseries “Holocaust” and for narrating the Netflix docuseries “Five Came Back,” respectively.
