First ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Clip Teases Tense Interspecies Confrontation (Video)

Jason Clarke and Keri Russell take a wrong turn in the woods

Some unfortunate hikers take a wrong turn in a trek through the woods and come face to face with an army of hyperintelligent apes in the first clip released from Matt Reeves‘ “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

In an extended version of a scene often teased in the various trailers that had been released previously from the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” sequel, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and company are surrounded and confronted by the Ape army led by Caesar (Andy Serkis).

All-out war seems inevitable and the puny humans seem doomed, but as we know from the first film, Caesar has a soft spot for the species. As we’ve seen in previous trailers, Clarke’s character will try to strike peace with the apes even as other members of both tribes would rather just see the other side annihilated altogether.

Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Toby Kebbell and Kodi Smit-McPhee co-star in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” which hits theaters on July 11, 2014.
