Finn Wittrock is joining the cast of FX’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”
The “La La Land” actor will play Jeff Trail, who is friends with serial killer Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss) and becomes his first victim.
Wittrock and “Versace” executive producer Ryan Murphy have previously worked together on “American Horror Story,” with Wittrock appearing on the three most recent seasons of that FX anthology series.
The 10-episode season of “Versace” centers on the murder of Gianni Versace by Cunanan. It also stars Edgar Ramirez (Versace), Penelope Cruz (Donatella Versace) and Ricky Martin (Antonio D’Amico).
Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk and Tom Rob Smith are executive producers for “Versace.” Murphy directed the premiere episode from a script by Smith.
“Versace” premieres in early 2018 on FX. It was initially slated as the third season of “American Crime Story” until the network swapped it with “Katrina: American Crime Story,” which will now begin production in early 2018 and run as Season 3.
“The People v. O.J. Simpson,” the first season of the heralded series, launched in February 2016 and won nine Emmys, including outstanding limited series.
Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions are behind the project.
Wittrock, who is repped by CAA and Weissenbach Management, is also known for roles in HBO’s “The Normal Heart,” which Murphy directed, and “The Big Short.” He earned an Emmy nomination for playing Dandy Mott in “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”
