Disney has released the final trailer for the much anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War,” the epic culmination of the first ten years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You can check out the trailer above.
This trailer is not quite as downbeat as the previous one, though it certainly does include several shots of our heroes in major peril, like Thanos (Josh Brolin) squeezing Thor’ (Chris Hemsworth) head and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) being tortured by an unknown subvillain. Not to mention, of course, the big shot in which Captain America (Chris Evans) goes one-on-one against Thanos.
Still, while the previous trailer was entirely serious and epic and terrifying, this final “Infinity War” trailer manages to slip in some jokes, as well as our heroes seemingly actually hatching a plan to deal with Thanos using the Infinity Stones as bait. Exciting!
“Avengers: Infinity War” will see all of the heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far team up to take on Thanos, the Mad Titan, who is seeking the Infinity Stones in order to power his Infinity Gauntlet — which, if he manages to get all the stones, will give him the power to reshape reality as he sees fit. Thanos is a threat to the entire universe, and it’s going to take everyone to deal with that threat — though it may be that not all of our beloved heroes will make it out of this fight alive.
During the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil last year, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said, “You know, we’ve been teasing Thanos since the very first ‘Avengers’ film. Remember the end of ‘Avengers,’ the very end of the movie he turns around in the chair and you realize something bad is coming. We’ve been teasing him for years and the trick is when you tease something for that long you have to deliver.”
Then came his promise: “So, within the first five minutes of ‘Infinity War’ people will understand why Thanos is the biggest and baddest villain in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
With many of the longtime Marvel actors contracts coming to an end, could Feige be teasing a major death? Or even multiple major deaths?
Anthony and Joe Russo directed “Avengers: Infinity War,” which is produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are the executive producers. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay.
“Marvel’s The Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” have grossed a combined $1.08 billion at the domestic box office.
“Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters April 27, 2018.
